Zaxel Deployment Case Study Zaxel Lossless Compression (ZLC™) for Movie and Video Digital Archive
Santa Clara, CA (May 22, 2012) China’s State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, known as SARFT, which controls television stations, radio stations, and movie studios nationwide, has selected Zaxel’s mathematically lossless compression “ZLC™“ for archiving its movies and video records. SARFT’s Movie Division purchased its first Zaxel’s ZLCTM servers, Zaxel Mathematically Lossless Compression, ten years ago, and has continued to use Zaxel ZLCTM servers for archiving its digital assets. i. ZLCTM major features include: 1 Supports a broad range of color depth and color space formats. 2 High speed compression and decompression. 3 Highest compression ratio in the industry. 4 Flexible operating environment. 1. Versatile and powerful CODEC: ZLCTM codec can handle far broader color space and bit-depth than JPEG 2000 CODEC can. For example, ZLCTM can encode the color space of RGB, YUV, XYZ, and RAW, and color-depth of 8, 10, 12, and 16. ZLC can easily adapt to other color spaces and color-depths as well. 2. High speed compression and decompression ZLCTM compresses and decompresses 4K 10 bit RGB files faster than 60 frames per second using off the shelf inexpensive graphics cards, such as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580. 3. High compression ratio ZLCTM compression ratio on RGB frame is 2 to 1, and the compression ratio on RAW is 6 to 1. 4. Software solution ZLCTM is implemented as a software application, and can run either on microprocessor or on GPU. In comparison, JPEG 2000 Mathematically Lossless Compression needs expensive accelerator card. Even with an expensive accelerator card, compression speed of 4K RGB files is limited to10 frames per second. JPEG 2000 cannot compress RAW files either.
